Tax Credit | Opportunity For All Floridians

Support a tax credit
for hardworking Floridians.

The Working Persons Tax Rebate would expand the Federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) to the state level.

3.3 million households in Florida are considered ‘working poor’. These are folks who have jobs, but, due to low wages, are only one unplanned expense or medical emergency away from sliding completely into poverty. Creating a statewide EITC Program would return an average of $250 to the pockets of families that are stuck paying the highest taxes based on their income. This tax credit isn’t a handout. It simply makes sure working Floridians keep more of what they earn. No one working hard to support themselves and their families should live in poverty.

29 states have already enacted their own versions of the Federal EITC Program to help middle class and low income working individuals and families meet their basic needs. Instead of becoming the 30th state to expand this program during the 2019 Legislative Session, the Florida Legislature chose to give $500 million back to the wealthiest corporations.

It’s not too late to pass legislation to help Florida’s working families. SB 254 would require the state to conduct a study of the tax rebate program and prepare a report outlining how it could be implemented in Florida. Working Floridians deserve to keep more of what they earn. Passing SB 254 is the first step towards tax fairness for working Floridians struggling to keep up with the rising costs of living.
